NorCal Ministry / Devotional Books / Foreign Missions
Our primary (physical) ministry is in Northern California. Our goal in all of these applications of ministry is that the local church be equipped to reach their local community with a vibrant message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We have numerous ministry roles here:
-Pastor/Missionary to pastors of 19 churches in two counties; Certified Church Health consultant - decades of ongoing experience in coming alongside struggling churches to help find and eliminate pain points.
-Seminary Director - in conjunction with Gateway Seminary, we administer 4 pastoral leadership courses via distance education through 3 instructors.
-Retreat director - 12 years and counting of continuous implementation of a yearly spiritual formation retreat for God-called men.
-We also have an online virtual church, represented by this website and our linked social media sites (see footer).
During the pandemic of 2020-21, I took a long sabbatical, during which time I spent a lot of time with the Lord. As a pastor to pastors, I first started writing a daily encouraging word, but it soon became far more than that. As I got deeper and deeper into quiet times with the Lord, followed by reflection and writing, the Lord showed me that I was writing a fresh book of devotions. As the writing grew to over 1600 pages, I realized that the only way to present it was to break it up into months. Each book is titled "Devotions for Our Times," and also has the particular month as part of the title, like the image you see here. Each month available at Amazon by button link below; search by the title, "Devotions For Our Times," + month desired. $2.99 helps to cover ministry expenses.
Two reviews from some of the readers:
"Here we have a presentation of both information for deepening Biblical literacy, and the opportunity for Spiritual transformation. As in the depth of writing from authors like Oswald Chambers and Dietrich Bonhoeffer, the value in Greg Holmes' devotional writing is found in our life-application of his insights and reflections. He invites us to join him in going deeper, and does so without judgement as to where we may be on our journey to God, but with hope that our life with Christ can be richer and more fulfilling." Jim K.
"This is an important body of work from Greg Holmes, a Pastor and a Student of Jesus. He is serious about sharing his knowledge, wisdom and experience, and how to apply these notions to living the life of a Christian, especially in these times. I highly encourage anyone (Christian, non-Christian, Christian-Curious, etc) to spend some time with his devotional (s). I believe they will help you see the Lord, and gentle your soul; I know they have helped me." Allison S.
One of our stated mission goals includes supporting international ministries that we believe are making a significant effort in serving the Gospel of Jesus Christ - especially in areas of the world and with particular ministries that serve under-represented ministries with resource needs. In Rezina, Moldova, Pastor Virgil Pavliuc is not only the pastor of the church in Rezina, but also pastor to pastors of many other churches, responsible for much of their training; also, for reaching out to other former Soviet states nearby. We have been partnered with Pastor Pavliuc since 2004, and have made numerous mission trips there, building the Rezina church and teaching in the Seminary in Chisinau, the capital city. With the current war in neighboring Ukraine, he is heavily involved in humanitarian aid to refugees fleeing into and through Moldova; we have been able, because of your generosity, to be part of extending critical aid to those people forced from their homes in the Ukraine. As with any of our mission donations, all funds go into a designated line item until the time when they are released 100% to that particular ministry. None of these funds are distributed for personal use.
Bibles in one of three dialects, Kenya - Pastor Bichang'a Robert Moinde
One of our stated mission goals includes supporting international ministries that we believe are making a significant effort in serving the Gospel of Jesus Christ - especially in areas of the world and with particular ministries that serve under-represented ministries with resource needs. In Kenya, Pastor Bichang'a Robert Moinde (at right in picture) ministers to a number of villages both there and in neighboring Tanzania. He has been jailed several times for his ministry activities, especially in Tanzania. He has also baptized many and raised up pastors to serve Christ in an area of conflict with Islam. In the accompanying picture, people are holding up the only Bible that they have ever received in their own language - due to funds raised by this ministry, 100% of which went to the purchase of the Bibles. In the future, we may make a mission trip to Kenya. Any funds donated to this ministry go into a designated line item, and are never diverted to other ministries or personal use.
